Nurslings Hemp Tais are based on an old concept which is believed to have been started in China/Japan.  It is a modern twist on an old design.

Key Design features of the Nurslings Hemp Tai Lines:

  • A Generously sized curved waist band
  • Our Standard Hemp Tai is large bodied and perfect for larger babies and toddlers.  Wide prevents leg dangling and tired legs
  • We use Organic products.  Our Straps are Hemp and Organic Cottons, our Batting/padding is Organic Bamboo and Organic Cotton, our Silks are Hemp and Silk Blends, and we offer all organic Prints as well as cotton prints.  Mostly what your baby touches is organic.
  • Safety. We take safety very seriously.  All of our straps are 10.5oz weight or higher, our Hemp Corduroy is safe to use than cotton corduroys.  Our seams are Triple stitched on the inside as well as Tac'd at all stress points, and then our straps are anchored to a hidden inner canvas layer and Xbox Reinforced on the outside, as well as two rows of topstitching.  Our Corduroy is enforced with Twill at all stress points on the inside and Tac'd and triple stitched.
  • We use good quality thread, Guetterman.
  • We use High Quality Prints and Fabrics
  • We use a 3 layer construction on all of our Mei Tais.  Occasionally a 4 layer construction to be extra cautious if a fabric seems to thin.
  • Hemp Fiber is stronger than cotton fiber, and remains un-bleached and un-treated and is grown without pesticides, making is safer for your child, but also a stronger fabric because bleach and chemicals can wear out fabric very quickly.

Why are your Carriers so Expensive?

I get asked this question quite a bit, and would like to shed a small amount of light onto it.  There are many factors, and I assure you all, I am not getting rich at these prices.  My Fabrics are not cheap.  Hemp is not grown in the US, and must be imported. I prefer to use organic materials.  Hemp and Organic Cottons.  These are more expensive then their non-organic brothers and sisters.  They are also safer to use, and more eco-friendly.  When you are buying a Nurslings product you are paying for no chemicals, no bleach, and organic materials.  This is part of the reason why I have to charge what I charge.  Other factors:  Nurslings Hemp Tai's take over 3 hours to sew from start to finish.  It is a complicated design.  I choose to use and support local moms/grandmoms/businesses to sew my carriers.  I do not go overseas to keep costs down.  I pay top dollar to have my carriers sewn locally.  I prefer to keep our economy strong, and also support other moms who would like more time to spend with their children and families.  I could go to a factory and have my carriers sewn probably less expensive than I pay, but as I stated, I like how I do things right now.  Now, you can add to this all of my advertising costs, time spent answering countless emails, corresponding with customers, cutting fabric (which if you never have done it, takes FOREVER)  I do all my own cutting.  It takes time. Time is precious, and time is money.  Time is spent away from my children, so I factor that into my costs as well.   These are only some of the factors used.

I choose to use local moms to sew for me, this has advantages and disadvantages.  The advantages are obvious, they get to stay home, and help support their families.  The disadvantages are that we are not a sewing factory, we do not have millions of dollars of sewing equipment.  Therefore yes, sometimes there can be slightly crooked stitches, or other tiny imperfections.  These do not affect the safety of Nurslings Hemp Tais. We do strive for perfection, but we are not robots.  We are not machines.  We are human, we try as physically hard as we can.  If you enjoy supporting other work at home moms, then my carriers are for you. If you are expecting sheer perfection at every stitch, then perhaps you should buy from a chain store.  Our products are hand crafted with love, and made especially for you and your child.

Print fabrics,  I try to buy fun prints, girl prints, boyish prints, organic prints, and the latest trends.  Fabric does not come cheap.  Especially some of the trend fabric and designers like Estuko Furya and Marimekko Fabrics. Sometimes you can pay 20.00 - 40.00 PER YARD for these fabrics.  Just some food for thought :)

Nurslings Hemp Tai Customs Information:

How many yards do you need for a custom NHT?
If you are wanting to purchase a custom Nurslings Hemp Tai (NHT)  I usually request one yard of fabric.  Especially if you want something specific from the pattern on your carrier.  If you would like any remaining fabric back, please indicate so in your notes.

I am having my straps dyed, what are your policies?

My policies on dyed straps are simple.  I will send out ONE SET of strap material ONLY.  I will charge you a flat fee for my time/cutting and shipping of the material to the dyer.  I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE for the color choosen, l will NOT send out new straps should your color not turn out exactly as you planned.  I will not reimburse you any dye fees set forth by the dyer.  This is AT YOUR OWN RISK.  I love the idea of dyed straps, but I cannot be held responsible for your choices.  So, if you enter into the dyeing strap world, just know that I fully support you, but I will not refund you any money on dyed straps gone bad.  I will stick to this policy.  I will not send out duplicate straps. Period.
